N | U | From ScottE: They do have pretty fair prices on their used equipment, but their customer service is outstanding. They are great people to deal with. They have no junk on their lot at all. If you've ever been up and down Valley Blvd. in Fontana, you've seen tons of junk equipment on most of the lots. Most trucks are plain worn out or torn up pretty badly. I'd definitely go back to Select Trucks again if I were in the market. They also have the ability to find you what you're looking for, like car dealers can. They are a large network of dealers nationwide and can find anything. BTW, Selectrucks of Los Angeles has locations Nationwide and in Canada so if your not in the Los Angeles area you might want to contact a dealer near you...... |

N | U | JBT (John) I decided to talk to the local Boise truck dealers about HDT's since I always like to buy local if I can. Went to the Peterbilt dealer, the sales manager wouldn't give me the time of day, kept telling me what I wanted to do was illegal, that I would have to get a CDL, have my truck inspected by DOT, in short he treated me like an idiot,(kind of like my MIL). Went to the Boise Kenworth dealer, their used truck sales manager spent 1-1/2 hours with me talking about different ideas, different trucks and different things to think about when purchasing a used Class 8. He talked about the different models Kenworth has made thru the years, which ones he felt would work, which ones he felt could cause some issues if it came to stretching the frame, etc. He discussed the shops in the area that do Dynos's, which one they use and why, talked about stretching the frame and what to be aware of and which trucks were easier the lengthen, (even different mfgs). He took alot of time out of his day to educate me and wanted to share that info here. I don't know what their service dept is like, but if it's anything like their sales dept I think they would be good people to deal with. Just a heads up if you happen to be looking for info on class 8s in the Boise Id area. |

N | U | Walterl: We bought from Dave Syverson Truck Centers with stores in Albert Lea and Rochester MN - I dealt with Rick (Who has been super) at Albert Lea. The truck was better than they described. They even put in new batteries before I got here because Rick thought it was a little slow cranking. If I didn't want to wait on the repairs, they gave me the options of going on down the road to Des Moines for repairs or have it repaired after JW finished the bed - both at their expense. I opted to stay because I didn't want to worry about causing further problems in the tranny. The nice thing is there has been absolutely no hastle. They moved it to the top of their list in the shop and started diagnosis immediately. I didn't have to ask for anything they are just taking care of the problem. I couldn't be more pleased and would recommend them to anyone. |

N | U | From Hogrydr (Jim): Just got back from Valley Volvo Truck Center and while there Quinn The Eskimo (Gail) and I talked to the sales manager Geoff Mauldin. Well the up shot of the conversations is this sales manger and his boss realized that they have a captive group down here every winter (400,000) RV'ers and they have gotten up to speed on what we do with these HDT's. He was the most knowledgeable Volvo employee I have talked to yet with regards to a RV toter. He was aware of the type custom features we want and knows how to get them done so we talked about everything from bed design to work stations in 630's. They know they will have to be innovative to sell a few trucks in this economy. |

From 5th_Wheeler (Jon): If I Were in the Market for an HDT, I'd seriously consider contacting PSD_Tweaker (Rick Lacombe) Via PM - OR - Via eMail about trying to locate me a good clean Canadian truck. Note:Forum guidelines stipulate that you have to have a Minimum of TEN Posts before you can send PM's therefore if your new to the forum with less than Ten Posts you might want to eMail Rick if your in a rush to locate a truck.......... Rick lives in Canada where used HDT prices are generally lower and he's been successful in finding a dozen or so forum members reasonably priced HDT's that are in Very Good to Excellent condition. Rick does a thorough inspection on every truck he locates then sends a list of suggested cosmetic and or mechanical repairs that he feels should be done to the truck along with a good selection of pictures to his potential customers. Once a customer commits to a truck he handles all the necessary Canadian and US paperwork to legally drive the truck into the US. Rick also makes it a point to pick up his customers at the airport, treat them to breakfast, lunch or a cup of Joe before taking them to inspect their truck. From all the comments his customers have posted they are all Very Pleased with their trucks and with the services Rick provides. |
