Hard drive failed and I'm reinstalling all my software on a new drive.  I have the disks for CoPilot 11 Truck but can't find the serial #.  I haven't registered with Alk so they are no help.  If you can help me out send me a PM, Thanks

S/N for C0-Pilot are usually on the back side of the owners manual that comes with the CD.  You need that number to install it.  Then registering it with CP they will email another number for use.

The way they do it can be problems when you couldn't Deactivate the license on the crashed hard drive.  I still never figured out how they know one was Deactivated.

And all the CD's have a different S/N.  so a number from another user won't help you.  Call and beg.  But it may cost now.  Alternatively if you have purchased and activated your product within the last 60 days you are entitled to free telephone support, please call:
CoPilot Pocket PC/SmartPhone - Tel: 408-916-9128
CoPilot Laptop - Tel: 408-916-9128
CoPilot Truck Laptop - Tel: 408-916-9128

They seem more interested now in updating mobile type unites than the Laptop one.

I am still using the Live 10 and it still gets me to where I want to go.  With the ability to add custom places on it.  Makes a update not needed for me.

I won't use them because of the usage restrictions they impose.

Jack what is the restriction on their software you don't like?

Other then they only allow the GPS be used on one Laptop and another copy on any PC for trip planning.

I don't like the fact that I can not put the software on 3 PCs.  One to do trip planning on, the netbook for the actual trip, and a backup copy on my wife's PC for her to "look at" the trip to approve it and for that time when the hard drive crashes.  Plus, the activation/deactivation to accomplish the above is not convenient.

Disregarding those issues, I also do not care for the user interface.  But that is a personal issue.  I happen to like Street Atlas.  And with Street Atlas I can put it on all 3 of my systems and share routes.

All of the laptop software programs have their strengths and flaws.  But if I can not even use it in the fashion that works for me then I won't even consider it.  I'm not convinced, BTW, that CP is worth the considerable premium they charge, either.  But that is a separate topic.

They do have that 2 PC limit.  And that has worked OK for me.  As I do all my planning on a Desktop and then send the trips wireless to the laptop.  My other ME laptop is only used for the VMSpc program.  I think the new activation/deactivation started with the Live 10.  Caught me off guard as I have used Co-Pilot since back in the early 90's.  I first put it on the Desktop until I found out the first on, uses the GPS receiver & 2nd for planning only.  So I found out the deactivation does work.

I hear that a lot about many doesn't like the user interface.  And it does take some getting use to.  But after using it myself for over 18 years it seems real easy and fast for planning.

I admit I never used any other GPS until around 2 years ago.  When I got a Garmin 2610 portable for the motorcycle that uses MapSource.  Now for me that has been a hard user interface to plan trips with.  And the Maps you buy can only work on 1 unit and no way to deactivate to use on another one.

I bought a 2nd 2610 on eBay last fall and it had older maps.  So I couldn't plan trips with the newer maps and transfer to that unit.  I had to put the maps for it on another PC and plan trips for it from that PC.  Of course Garmin quit making new maps for those units.  And I did buy last month their last 09 map update for over $114 that I can only use on 1 of my 2 units.

Talk about premium price.  Co-Pilot did offer me and any registered owner's updated software every year for $69 when they came out.  I usually updated every 2 years for that price.  And did several times.  Looks like that deal is over as they quit the yearly update.  I think the 11 came out 2 years ago and nothing new since.  Also it won't work with the new 64 bit PC's.  That my next PC will have.  That won't be anytime soon though.  XP still works good.

I may have to try Street Atlas later if it works with 64 bit PC's.
