Hi Everyone ,

When does a person know when it is time to replace the clutch ? What signs does a person look for ? I don't what to start on a trip and find out that the clutch needs replaced. How does one tell whether they have an easy petal clutch in there truck ? The truck is a '98 Volvo with a Cummins motor.

Thanks for any help,

Any Volvo dealer should be able to check it for you...
I forgot exactly what to do, but on my 2001 Volvo you can look inside and will see Green thru an inspection hole indicating the clutch is ok...or Red if bad...
If your not real mechanical minded it is not real easy to feel if it is bad, but under load in a higher gear if you push the throttle full down, if it is slipping your tack will rise immediately...don't do this more than one or two times though...
Cheers,
Bob

Under my 2000 A/S , if you look at the slave cylinder on the bellhousing there is a "telltale". It's a metal arrow showing when it's out of adjustment. I would think it is on manual trans also, but..............

I have a 99 Volvo VNL with a Cummins and 10 spd. On mine, if you look in between the drivers side front tire and step area of fender you can see in to the side of your bell housing. Mine has an aluminum "pointer/indicator" that shows the safe range of clutch adjustment. It shows an area marked off as "needs adjustment". This indicator is right in front of the clutch hydraulic slave cylinder. I assume that in the future if this indicator shows clutch needs adjustment, but clutch won't adjust back into range... its worn out and needs replacing. Hope this helps.
